This is Unkle Rodger, April 5th 2002, 10:50 PM... acting as emcee for the Rochester Music Coalitions first event, and that would be Gregory Paul with the guitar on the right. I first met Unkle Rodger in 1975, maybe 1974... I was in High School! Unkle Rog would visit me via the FM radio, Unkle Rog, and Janet from another planet... If you ever worked late night in Rochester, then you know who Unkle Rodger is, if you ever had a love for local music, then you know who Unkle Rodger is... The Unkle Rodger you see in the photo is one of him in action supporting the local music scene that he loved... I read that his 30 years at WCMF was the longest continuous service to one radio station in the nation. I was also acquainted with Unkle Rodger as a neighbor, and a family man, usually via the phone, as our daughters attended school together...
Friday December 12th 2003, at about 6:00 PM, Unkle Rodger was murdered in an attempted robbery . It seems so odd, this man, who's voice has wove it's way through my life since I was a teen, always a constant... is silenced in such a tragic way... but more, because Unkle Rodger touched the lives of countless thousands perhaps millions, not just as a DJ, but because of his ties to the local music scene... In Rochester NY, I assure you, it is the single most saddest moment in the history of the local music scene... I do not mean to place more importance on the murder of one person just because they enjoyed celebrity status... but I wonder, does the person who murdered Unkle Rog realize how many people are hearing the silence created by his gun?
