Rochester NY Happy New Year 2014!
Welcome to the first edition of 2014, I hope you enjoy the new format. I have been documenting Rochester, NY News Weather Sports, and primarily Entertainment events on this website since March of 2002. Photos and videos published prior to 2013 are indexed under the Photo & Video links, new content is now being listed under the Events link. Prior to that I began with just Webcams in the late 1990's via my account on Frontiernet.Net and I'm still publishing what are the longest running webcams in Rochester, NY. I have been working on publishing new content as a current event, rather than a historical event for a couple of years now. There have been many new stories told on RocPic.Com in the last year, and there are a few more to be added. Most of what you will find on RocPic.Com is what I like to call the "Good ROC" you will find more than a decade of Rochester, NY photos and videos on RocPic.Com, 99% of which show Rochester in a positive light. Much has changed in the last year. My pursuit of quality when shooting concert photos using available light is acceptable. Producing music videos with less crowd noise, and close ups on most solos has become the norm. I am now comfortable working on this website with cascading style sheets, and an editor. In 2014, I will return to publishing on RocPic.Com as I did before the arrival of MySpace and Facebook. Social media is a great place to announce what I publish, but it is a black hole for the content itself.
I would urge anybody who
creates original
content to take control of what you create by publishing it to your own
website, and not on social media. I am kicking off 2014 with a look at
the last 6 months of 2013, a few of the highlights from
July -
December, and I will be back in a couple of weeks with a look at the
first 6 months of 2013. Currently you will see an emphasis on the Super
Sunday Soul Jam, a new event / open mic, that falls on Sunday
afternoons. As I work 3rd shift, this is a perfect time for me to hang
out for 5 hours shooting pictures and video, and I have shot 7 weeks of
the SSSJ and plan to shoot at least 3 more. Beyond entertainment, I
will be publishing many stories in 2014 that focus on people, and
places of interest in Rochester, NY and because I don't live in a
bubble, I will be adding a "Bad ROC" link to RocPic.Com. Keep in mind,
this is a multimedia website where content really is king. RocPic.Com
has always been about bringing you the BIG picture, and in video,
quality sound, so this site is best viewed on a real computer, hooked
up to a decent sound system, using Firefox.
Also, almost every link on
RocPic.Com opens in a new window, so you must enable pop ups to get the
most from this site, there is NO pop up advertising on RocPic.Com.
There will be MANY updates to the front page of
RocPic.Com in 2014, and under the hood, so be sure to refresh the page
when you visit (F5) Are you ready to ROC? Enjoy! Ron M.

More:
Every region has it's characters, and although Buzzo
Bruno has his
roots in Geneseo, NY, he is still a ROC icon. I think most people who
know of Buzzo, would identify him as the owner of record
store Buzzo Music,
having been exposed to his TV ads proclaiming "Buzzo Buzzo Buzzo
Buzzo". I'm sure you will enjoy his trumpet playing, his vocals, and
his All Star Band. On my journey as a fan of the ROC music scene, I
pick up bit's of music knowledge along the way, the most recent was the
comparison of Buzzo Bruno to Rahsaan Roland Kirk a man who
played multiple instruments simultaneously.

More:
Aaron
Plunkett was a friend of mine, I lived on or near Monroe Ave
where his store Aaron's Ally is located, for more than a decade of my
recent life. Aaron's Alley was / is, the equivalent of the
barber shop, with multiple regular customers stopping by to discuss the
weather. Aaron Plunkett is another regional character, known
by many for his store Aaron's Alley, but much more in
Rochester and around Monroe Ave. as a friend to all the many people who
visited his store. Missed by many, his family and friends are
keeping his memory alive with the promise that "Aaron's
Alley"
will continue operating.

More:
So this would be my first visit to the Super Sunday Soul Jam. You may
be familiar with Street Willie from the Brother Wease Show heard on WFXF
95.1FM, and you may have heard of Mitty & The Followers
also on the Brother Wease show. Like many of the bands I
cover,
there is a Buddhahood connection to this band, that being Paul
Mastriani, Buddhahood drummer and former drummer for Mitty &
The
Followers. I originally shot Mitty & The Followers at the Corn
Hill Arts Festival in 2010. I met Street Willie Memorial Day
weekend at the Veterans Outreach Center
a few years ago when Brother Wease was doing a remote broadcast from
South Ave. in front of the Outreach Center building. By time I reach 10
episodes of the SSSJ, there will be about 40 hours of video featuring
100's of Rochester, NY musicians, and you will spot Street Willie in
the videos taking care of the open mic sign up sheet and taking
pictures. There
are currently 7 weeks of SSSJ posted here
with a goal of 10, I will be back at the Captain's Attic on February
9th, & 16th, 2014 to shoot episodes 8 & 9 of 10.
Fall
& Winter are normally the off season for shooting video, so the
SSSJ
has really been a welcome challenge as I move forward in upping the
quality of the photos, videos, and website, while striving for a
quicker delivery time of new content.
